Evaluate mortgage software with a workflow.
A product demonstration should answer a question about your work.
Start with the article →Choose a scenario before watching the demo.
Choose a task to test: receiving an item, tracking a request, assigning an owner or finding the current record. Define the starting point and proof of success. Use fictional details in the demo. Do not turn a trial into an uncontrolled transfer of borrower records.
Ask how a request moves from loan officer to processor. Can both see its status? How does a question reach someone who can answer it? Watch the full path, including an incomplete step. That tells you more than a polished screen alone.
Ask for implementation evidence.
MISMO is an industry standards source. A vendor naming a standard does not prove it supports a specific connection, version or workflow. Ask what data moves, which way, who permits it and what happens if it fails. Request records that support the exact capability claimed.
FTC Safeguards Rule guidance covers security duties for covered institutions. Use it as context for a qualified security review. A sales demo cannot show that all those duties are met. Confirm which requirements apply with your advisers and system owners.
- Can a role see only the information needed for its work?
- What happens when an exchange fails or a record changes?
- Can an authorized user identify who changed the record?
- How are access removal, export and retention handled?
Record gaps before making a choice.
Keep separate lists of what you saw, what the vendor documented and what stays unclear. A future feature is not available now. Give each open question an owner who can find evidence and decide whether the gap matters.
Audience affinity research may suggest software to explore. It cannot prove fit, security, integration or UPG compatibility. This guide offers a review method, not a product ranking. Discuss the evidence with the people who would use and manage the system.
Put it to work.
Evaluate demonstrated behavior and unresolved gaps, not a feature count.
