Start with reporting, then follow the evidence.

Use Scotsman Guide, HousingWire and National Mortgage News to spot news, find questions and trace original announcements. Each offers a different view of the mortgage industry. A headline can start a discussion. It should not become a file instruction without review.

Scotsman Guide covers industry news and professional views. HousingWire covers the wider housing business. National Mortgage News offers mortgage reporting and analysis. For each article, check the author, date and source links. Is it news, opinion or sponsored content? Access terms can vary.

  • Scotsman Guide: scan for professional and industry context.
  • HousingWire: follow developments across the housing business.
  • National Mortgage News: examine mortgage business reporting and analysis.

Keep primary references beside the news.

Bookmark the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Single-Family sites for guides and learning. For integrated disclosure questions, use CFPB implementation resources and linked rules and interpretations. Check the program, effective date and lender instructions. An agency update may not apply to every file.

For example, a trade story may discuss a guideline change. Find the agency source, check its scope and ask the responsible person how it affects the work. A saved headline alone does not let the next reader check the conclusion.

Turn bookmarks into a manageable routine.

Give each source a role: news, an official reference or learning. Keep a short shared note with the question, original source and person who will decide if action is needed. Remove bookmarks that no longer serve the team’s work.

SparkToro research on independent mortgage brokerage professionals helped inform this list, along with editorial judgment. Audience affinity is a research signal. It does not prove UPG brokers visit a site often, or establish reliability, reading frequency or endorsement. Use the worksheet to check the specific item you plan to use.

Put it to work.

Keep news for discovery and original sources for decisions.
